Louise mentioned the 'Power of Myth' documentary which is a chat with Joseph Campbell after Star Wars was released. This is an associated book. Just FYI - has some interesting stuff in it.

More resources for Star Wars Empty Another view of Campbell and Star Wars

This paper posits that Star Wars follows an even deeper mythology, in that Lucas was influenced by apocalyptic religious myth.

More resources for Star Wars Empty Another theologian...

The first part of the intro to this book takes a look at Star Wars' influence on culture, and its relevance to culture. It's an interesting read (the rest is more theological and of slightly less relevance for us).

Interesting quote on page 2, btw.

More resources for Star Wars Empty Empire in terms of the monomyth

Post by Admin Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:08 am

With Empire Strikes Back, we find the hero's journey extended. How does it fit into Campbell's model? It's the hero's initiation stage, as he becomes reborn:
"I think that’s one of the reasons Empire succeeds like it does. Kersh understood that, though Darth Vader and the Emperor are big bads, the whole story is Luke becoming a hero. Struggling with confidence issues, and then arrogance issues, before finally himself becoming a Jedi."
