It's interesting how often a hero's journey involves going through a swamp.

A nasty smelly swamp at that...

I've not come across that many pleasant-smelling swamps. I admit my experience isn't vast.

Love that lucas poked fun at his own character design.

is the wilhelm scream a part of the heros journey?

Obviously lasers have no effect on non-organic materials, or the death star would look like Swiss cheese.

It's mandatory.

In the modern journey, I would have to say yes.

Usually it's the hero giving the roar though....

Re- the garbage compactor's wetness, Laurence Coupe (Literature scholar) says it's Luke's Supreme Ordeal for this particular journey. For his overall journey, though, I'd say it's part of his crossing the threshold.

Re garbage compactor; if that is likes supreme ordeal, its a pretty simple one. And rather early in thru story too

The whole Luke n Leia relationship becomes icky when you realise that they're brother and sister.

I agree, it's early on. More of a test as he makes his way into the new world. Swampy garbage chute vs vast, dry homeland?

getting tracktor beamed to the death star seems like the belly of the whale, but the swamp monstor is the first very clear trial on the death star, the rest is just random lazor fights, which is mostly filler from place to place.

Very dambusters feel at the moment...

There's no real rallying the troops speech before the fight...
