As I said last week, your best bet is to keep the telling of the story simple. Remember that folk stories can follow a hero's journey without needing to be too descriptive. You may end up with something that's like a synopsis of a bigger story, or a fairy tale.

I'm a little confused on exactly what the Creation Myth needs to be. I'm assuming it's the thing that a few people read out that one class - I remember Tristan's being about the Internet. Is it just that? And how long does it need to be?

As with all folio pieces, it's 500 words. And the creation myth is your version of a creation myth - whatever that is. The exercise people read out in class was in response to a challenge to write a creation myth for creatures that were in a particular environment. In examining the various creation myths from around the world, we sorted out that creation myths contain:
*The why – why are we here, why people do the things they do, why the environment is the way it is.
*How things came to be/ how a creator created things
*Creator or creation process
*How the creator was created and any other gods
*Often refers to a magical or sacred object/word/song
*Formation of the world, animals and people
*Darkness into light
*Mistakes are made and corrected – eg. if the god doesn't like the first creation, he wipes it out immediately (distinct from the flood story)
*Explanation of how inanimate creations came to life (eg. god breathing life into Adam)
*Doesn't usually contain any devils or morality – simply creation.
So your creation myth needs to cover a range of these things.

Alrighty, thank you. That's the piece I'm having trouble with, not so much the 500 word Hero Journey thingy.

There are some examples of creation myths in your resource book as well.

Seona: yes, very important point. We will be back in our classroom. No more onliney-wimey stuff.

Okay, gang. Looks like we're calling it a day here. Don't forget to look at the resources I've put up and contact me if you have any thoughts or questions.
